The Ichetucknee Alliance’s Advocacy Work

Our advocacy efforts include representing the Alliance at:

  • Columbia County’s annual legislative delegation meeting.

  • Monthly meetings of the Suwannee River Water Management District’s board of directors.

  • Public meetings held to discuss development and re-evaluation of the Ichetucknee’s minimum flow and level (MFL).

  • Public meetings held to discuss development of the Lower Santa Fe River Basin Management Action Plan (BMAP) that includes the Ichetucknee.

  • Public meetings held to discuss the North Florida Regional Water Supply Plan.

  • Meetings of the Floridan Aquifer Collaborative Engagement for Sustainability (FACETS) stakeholders’ group.

The Alliance is committed to being a strong advocate for the Ichetucknee. We have demonstrated this commitment by legally challenging several state decisions that did not advance our mission to restore, protect and preserve the springs and the river. These legal challenges include:

  • A challenge to the first MFL and recovery plan.

  • A challenge to the North Florida Regional Water Supply Plan.

  • A challenge to the BMAP for the Lower Santa Fe and Ichetucknee rivers.
